Tell us about your wall and we will put you in touch with an independent structural engineer who works with concrete sleeper retaining walls in South Australia.

Fence Plinths does not provide engineering design, certification or advice. We introduce you to a firm. The engineer is engaged directly by you and sets their own fees, which are separate from anything you buy from us and are payable to them. Scope, cost and timeframes are agreed between you and the firm.

When engineering is required

• Any wall retaining over 1.0m.
• Any wall under a surcharge, such as a driveway, a building, another wall or a fence on top.
• Any wall where a fence takes the combined height over 2.1m measured from the low side.

These walls also need development approval and a design to AS 4678. Our wall builders give indicative material estimates only; they are not an engineering design.

Materials

Engineered walls must be built from our first-grade Outback Sleepers or Silvercrete range. Our seconds are clearance stock, ungraded and without a duty rating, so they are not suitable for engineered walls at any height.

Helpful to have ready: site plan or dimensions, retained height, what sits behind and above the wall, and soil type if known.
